Sheriff’s Deputy Responding to Call Was Involved in Collision with Driver Suspected of Being Intoxicated

Murphys, CA…On September 28th, 2019 at about 1000 PM Deputy Williams was responding to a report of a missing hunter near Spicer Meadow Reservoir when he was involved in a head on traffic collision. 42 year-old John Ueda (Brentwood, CA) was traveling west bound when he allowed his vehicle to cross into Deputy Williams’ lane. Deputy Williams attempted to avoid Ueda’s vehicle however, he was unsuccessful. The California Highway Patrol conducted the investigation and subsequently found John Ueda to be under the influence and placed him under arrest at the scene.

Ueda was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for 23153(A) CVC DUI Accident Causing Injury (Felony), 23152(B)CVC Drive with grea ter than .08 BAC Causing Accident (Felony) and 14601.2(A) CVC Drive while license is suspended (Misdemeanor). Total bail of $130,000. Deputy Williams was transported to the Mark Twain Emergency Room for treatment of injuries sustained during the collision.
