Arnold, CA…The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), in cooperation with Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI), will be conducting a prescribed burning operation near the southern boundary of Big Trees State Park. This project is located east of Arnold in Calaveras County.

This prescribed burn is designed to reduce ground level fuels, creating a more fire resilient environment as well as improving the forest health and habitat.

The prescribed burning will commence Monday, November 11th at 09:00 am and will continue through the day Wednesday, November 13th, as the prescription allows. Burning will primarily be done during daylight hours, however some fire activity will be visible at night and smoke will be present for several days following.

Resources assigned to the VMP will consist of fire engines, fire crews, bulldozers and water tenders from the various cooperating agencies.
