Murphys, CA…Cantamos, a local favorite that performs a wide variety of musical styles, will entertain the crowd when the Murphys Community Club concludes this year’s series of First Fridays in the Park on September 4 starting at 6 p.m. in the tree shaded Murphys Community Park.
With featured singer Michela Macfarlane, Cantamos highlights its musical dexterity by moving from arias, traditional Latin songs and musicals, to contemporary favorites. Their music moves seamlessly from English to Italian, Spanish to French to Portuguese, Hawaiian and back again.
Macfarlane spent ten years steeped exclusively in baroque music. To expand her singing world she moved to the realms of Jazz, Pop, Rock, Folk, Reggae, Ska and Latin sounds. While remaining true to her operatic roots, she has become a very versatile performer. The lead singer is backed by Ron Schaner on (Bass and vocal), Fred Treece (Guitar and vocal), Jerry Solberg (Keyboards and vocal) and Scott Leverone (Drums).
From June to September, the First Friday in the Park series features a performance by a popular musical group playing in the landmark gazebo starting at 6 p.m. From 4 p.m., tickets for a special dinner will be available for purchase at $10.00 per person and an excellent local wine will be on sale along with other beverages. Dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m. This month’s meal will be prepared by the Murphys Historic Hotel and will include two penne pasta dishes, chicken and ground beef, a garden green salad, corn on the cob, watermelon, garlic bread and cookies.
Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America happening. There is no admission charge and a lot of free parking is available nearby. Donations to help maintain the park are always gratefully received.
