Murphys, CA…Richard (Woody) Walraven passed away peacefully at home January 15, 2020 surrounded by family at the age of 84. He was born October 10, 1935 to the late Edward and Helen Walraven in Lenroot Winconsin. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, two sisters Joyce Tapp, Gloria Anthony, preceded in death by his brother Ervin (Shirley) Walraven. Survivors also include his two sons David (Melessa) Walraven, Steven (Melissa) Walraven, four daughters Donella Vergara, Kimberli (Nate) Hofstetter, Monica Delbar, Dana (Kyle) Dozier, 11 Grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Richard served as a Diver and Pattern Maker in the U.S. Navy on the USS Shenandoah. After his service in the Navy he returned home to become a Carpenter in Murphys and surrounding areas. He was well known to most people as “Woody” and was hardly ever seen without his cowboy hat. He was passionate about his work, animals and his garden and would show up on your door step with arms full of vegetables. He loved music and entertaining friends and family at his home. As a local resident of 71 years in the Murphys / Douglas Flat area he will be missed by us all.
