Major Injuries to Murphys Man in Hwy 4 Collision Late Yesterday Afternoon

Angels Camp, CA…On 1/23/2020, at approximately 1538 hours a Murphys man was driving his Subaru eastbound on SR-4, east of Appaloosa Road, traveling approximately 55 mph. A Valley Springs man was driving his F150 westbound on SR-4, approaching Appaloosa Road, traveling approximately 45 mph, approaching the Subaru. The Driver allowed the Subaru to travel off of the roadway, onto the south shoulder of SR-4. It collided with the railing of the bridge that crosses the west branch of Cherokee Creek. The Subaru then traveled back into the roadway where it collided with the Ford and overturned. The driver of the pickup and his passenger sustained minor injuries. The Murphys man sustained major injuries as a result of this collision.

After on-scene investigation it was determined that alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in this traffic collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours for patient care, scene cleanup and to ensure the safety of the damaged bridge and roadway.
