Sonora, CA…From the Sonora Police Department…”37-year-old Jason H. Parker of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of check forgery, attempting to pass fictitious checks, and providing false identification to a Police Officer. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening, the Sonora Police Department received a call from employees at the Stockton Road Savemart regarding a subject attempting to pass fraudulent checks. The officer arrived within minutes and quickly detained the subject identified by store personnel.
During the investigation, the officer determined that Parker was in possession of two business checks with the names of a local restaurant on them. Parker presented another person’s identification to the officer, claiming to be that person and to be employed by the businesses listed on the checks. The officer eventually concluded that the checks were, in fact, fraudulent, the identification was stolen and that Parker did not work for the mentioned businesses. Additionally, it was determined that Parker was in possession of a stolen wallet containing other cards and property matching the name on the mentioned identification.
Parker was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for check forgery, attempting to pass fictitious checks, and for providing false identification to a peace officer. We are also seeking charges against Parker relating to the stolen wallet and its contents.
