San Andreas – The 2020 Mountain Oaks Academic Decathlon Team are the Calaveras & Tuolumne Regional Champions of the 41^st Annual Regional Academic Decathlon Competition. This year’s competition took place on Feb. 1, 2020 at Sonora High School. This year’s curriculum theme was “In Sickness and in Health: An Exploration of Illness and Wellness”.  Students compete in ten events: Economics, Essay, Art, Interview, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Social Science, Speech, and Written Super Quiz. This year’s four competing high schools included Bret Harte High School, Mountain Oaks School, Summerville High School, and Tioga High School.

Mountain Oaks decathletes studied 10 subjects for the past 6 months focused on the theme of Health and Wellness. Their team scored first in the Super Quiz and outscored the other 3 competing high schools. “We will be participating in the California State Academic Decathlon in Sacramento on March 26th-29^th and I am so proud of these hard-working students,” said Mountain Oaks Academic Decathlon Coach Rose Justi. The team is led by Team Captain, Alexa Hughes., a four-year member of the team. Alexa is also the overall Regional Top Scorer and the Honors Level Top Scorer.
