Minor Injury DUI Traffic Collision Leads to Felony DUI Charges For Sonora Man

Sonora, CA..On March 12, 2020, at approximately 11:37 am, 50-year-old Fred Jack Westmoreland of Sonora was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Greenley Road just south of Cabezut Road. At that location, 45-year-old Heather Ballou of Murphy’s was traveling westbound on Cabezut Road, just east of Greenley Road. As Mr. Westmoreland made a right turn onto Cabezut Road, at approximately 20 miles per hour, he traveled over the double yellow lines and the front of his vehicle struck the front of Ms. Ballou’s vehicle.

Both Mr. Westmoreland and Ms. Ballou sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and were transported by ground ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora. After further investigation, it was determined that Mr. Westmoreland was driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for Felony DUI charges.

Both of the involved drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
