High Fire Danger for the Truckee Area

High Fire Danger with strong winds today through the weekend. Use extreme caution!

Although temperatures have dropped, strong winds with very dry trees, grass and brush is causing high fire danger to continue.  A fire that starts during strong winds will be difficult to stop even with cooler temperatures. Use extreme caution!

  • No mowing or weed eating in the afternoons
  • No campfires outside of campgrounds
  • Campfires should be dead out and cold to the touch
  • Watch for dragging boat and trailer chains which cause sparks

Fire season will continue for at least two more months.  Many of the most devastating wildfires in California have occurred in September and October.
