Charlie is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week & Social Distancing Buddy

San Andreas, CA…Meet Charlie, a Bichon Poodle mix estimated to be between 3 and 4 years of age. Weighing just over 17 pounds, Charlie is the perfect size for a smaller home and travel. A friendly fellow with excellent leash manners, Charlie very much enjoys his walks and the opportunity to explore. He likes attention and was exceptionally tolerant of a lengthy grooming and bath (though we’re sure you can tell he could use a bit more in that department). Charlie also plays happily with other small dogs, both male and female. His one issue is that he guards his food so a home without young children is a must. Someone who could help Charlie learn to feel more secure and work with him to modify this behavior would be ideal.

As with all dogs available for adoption, Charlie is micro-chipped and up-to-date on his routine vaccinations. He will need to be altered before going home with his special person or family.

Come visit Charlie, impound no. AO51017, along with other dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (in government center by the new jail). Animal Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.). For more information about this dog, please email kbandy@co.calaveras.ca.us or svavzincak@co.calaveras.ca.us, or call Animal Services directly at 754-6509. Please refer to Charlie’s impound number above when making inquiries.

Currently, the Calaveras shelter remains open for visitors wishing to adopt. We are, however, limiting viewing to one person at a time in order to help prevent COVID-19 infection among people. Please understand there may be a wait for you to view the shelter animals. This is also a good time to remind the public that COVID-19 does not affect animals and many await their forever homes, especially now during this outbreak when our shelter is full. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!
When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
