Upcoming Series of Full Closures of SR-12 for Mokelumne River Bridge Repairs

Lodi, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning a series of 55-hour, full highway closures of eastbound and westbound State Route 12 (SR-12) between SR-160 and Interstate 5 (I-5) for repair work on the Mokelumne River Bridge located at the San Joaquin/ Sacramento County line.

Caltrans is scheduled to perform 55-hour full highway closures at the SR-12/Mokelumne River Bridge on the following dates and times;

55-hour closure – starting at 9pm on Friday, April 17 through 5am on Monday, April 20
55-hour closure – starting at 9pm on Friday, April 24 through 5am on Monday, April 27
55-hour closure – starting at 9pm on Friday, May 1 through 5am on Monday, May 4
55-hour closure – starting at 9pm on Friday, May 8 through 5am on Monday, May 11
55-hour closure – starting at 9pm on Friday, May 15 through 5am on Monday, May 18

Work scheduled during these closures includes; removal and replacement of the bridge “end jacks,” which secure the movable bridge back into alignment with the roadway after having opened for boat traffic, and removal and replacement of the center main bearing, which allows the movable bridge to swivel open for boat traffic and return back into alignment with the highway for motorist travel.

** No lane closures are scheduled during the Memorial Day weekend of May 22-25, 2020. **

DETOUR INFORMATION:

Motorists should consider I-5 and I-80 as alternate routes and should allow additional travel time due to the detour. Detour routes are below (an approximate 30-mile, 45-minute detour) and will be posted:

Traveling Eastbound on SR-12
Take SR-160 north to Walnut Grove Road to I-5

Traveling Westbound on SR-12
Take I-5 north to Walnut Grove Road to SR-160 south

Access to local residents, businesses and emergency services will be allowed into Tower Park via Glasscock Road from the east and into B&W Resort Marina (Brannon Island Road) from the west.

Current truck advisories apply. CA LEGAL trucks with kingpin to rear axle over 30 feet are not recommended on SR-160. Trucks are discouraged from using this detour route and are advised to use I-5 and I-80 as alternate routes.

The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, materials, and/or construction-related issues.
