Sonora, CA…On June 6th at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon, our office received a phone call of an attempted vehicle theft in progress in the area of Downtown Plaza. Officers arrived on scene and located Roni Hatton, 29-years-old, and John McAdoo, 28-years-old, running from the scene. After a brief foot chase, Hatton and McAdoo were taken into custody without incident. During a search of McAdoo after he was arrested, he was found to be in possession of metal knuckles.
According to witness statements, McAdoo and Hatton were standing outside of a business for an extended period of time. When the victim turned her attention for a brief moment, Hatton took the keys to the vehicle and both Hatton and McAdoo got in the vehicle in an attempt to flee the area. Hatton was unable to get the vehicle started and the subjects fled the car on foot when confronted by the victim and bystanders. Officers were able to locate the vehicle’s keys and the victim was able to leave the area in her vehicle.
Hatton was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for attempted vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and resisting arrest. McAdoo was booked for being in possession of stolen property, possession of metal knuckles, conspiracy to commit a crime, and for resisting arrest. Both McAdoo and Hatton were released from custody because of the $0 bail due to COVID-19.
Too bad vermin like these two are loose anywhere any time.
