Sonora, CA…From the Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept…”A tense call ends best way possible. Last night, at approximately 7:30 pm, our dispatch center received an alarming call for service at a residence on Dapple Gray Way in Cedar Ridge. The reporting victim told dispatchers she was caretaking for 75-year-old Donald Jacobsen of Sonora when he took her .38 revolver, pointed it at her and threatened to kill her.
The victim was in fear for her life and could not escape the residence. Deputies responded and established a perimeter around the house while dispatch maintained communications with the victim. Once on scene, deputies were able to coordinate with the victim and safely escort her from the residence.
The victim explained to deputies Donald had made various threats toward the victim and threatened to shoot at law enforcement. Deputies held a perimeter around the residence and called in the Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) to assist with the arrest of Donald.
After SWAT had arrived, Donald spontaneously exited the residence and walked up to the street. Donald was given several commands to keep his hands in the air to which he did not comply with the orders. Donald pulled a firearm from his rear pocket, held the firearm for a moment, then turned around and placed it atop a nearby garbage can. Donald was given several more commands to lay on the ground. Again, he did not comply with the orders and began walking away from SWAT members and deputies. SWAT team members and deputies acted quickly and were able to take Donald into custody.
The incident lasted approximately one hour from start to successful conclusion. Donald was booked into the county jail for false imprisonment with violence, criminal threats, felony resisting arrest and brandishing a firearm.
We are grateful for the outcome and proud of all sheriff’s office members for their patience and courage during such a stressful incident.
