Reopening Plan for Calaveras Schools

Angels Camp, CA…The plans for Calaveras County Schools and the fall reopening plans have been developed with technical assistance from Calaveras County Public Health. According to guidance from the California Department of Public Health on July 17, 2020, “ California public schools (traditional and charter), private schools (including nonpublic nonsectarian schools), school districts, and county offices of education, herein referred to as schools, will determine the most appropriate instructional model, taking into account the needs of their students and staff, and their available infrastructure. This guidance is not intended to prevent a school from adopting a distance learning, hybrid, or mixed-delivery instructional model to ensure safety. Schools are not required to seek out or receive approval from a state or local public health officer before adopting a distance-learning model .” https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-schools.pdf

The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priority. At this time and after feedback from our stakeholders, each district has selected to resume education under the following models. Bret Harte Union High School District and Calaveras Unified School District will begin under a distance learning model. Mark Twain Union Elementary School District plans on a blended model and Vallecito Union School District is currently in the middle of a multi-campus remodel and hopes to begin back in the classroom around the 8th of September with full regular classroom attendance.

Calaveras County Office of Education programs will be a blend of models depending on the district and location they serve.

Sincerely,
Scott Nanik, Calaveras County Office of Education
Mike Chimente, Bret Harte Union High School District
Mark Campbell, Calaveras Unified School District
Paula Wyant, Mark Twain Union Elementary School District
Jim Frost, Vallecito Union School District
