Avery, CA…Jim Harmuth was born on August 21, 1938 in Hutchinson, Kansas. As a kid he spent time He passed peacefully at his Avery CA. home on September 17, 2020 and was accompanied by his immediate family at the time of his passing. Jim served in the Marine Corps. for four years and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1959. He was certainly proud to serve his country. While serving in the Corp his employment included law enforcement until he was employed as a Union Ironworker Local 378 for 35 years until his retirement as a Foreman.

Jim worked 3 jobs while raising four of his children, Eddie, Stephen, Jimmy Lane, Tiffany Whitear and Jasin Jacobson. He loved his children, dog Daisy and his late beer drinking dog Gibbs. Jim’s first sight of Sue Jacobson was in a bar in Walnut Creek CA. At that moment it was “love at first sight” for both of them. He immediately courted Sue as they fell in love and married on August 30, 1990 on a cruise ship to Alaska. Jim and Sue enjoyed travel, card games, camping, fishing Ebbetts Pass lakes & rivers, archery, hunting, big band music, dancing, western movies and spending time with friends. He also loved restoring his 1949 Mercury and then joined the Sierra Angels Car Club. Jim always smiled when Sue quoted “He was my best 30 years”. He enjoyed playing cards with his mother-in-law as she cheated to keep him on his toes. Jim bought property in Avery in 1972 where he built a shop. He moved to Avery in 1988 when he met Sue. They lived in the shop while building their house. He bought a house in Hawaii because he loved the islands so much.

Jim has touched so many lives and will be missed. He is survived by his adoring wife Sue, brother Russ (Shirley), and sons Ed (Kathy), Jimmy and Jasin (Camille); several grandchildren
and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jim is joined with his mother, father, brother Bobby, and daughter Tiffany of whom was the “light” in his life.

Mr. Harmuth services will be given tribute by the Marine Corp Honor Guard Detail at the Murphys Veterans Memorial Park (across from the Murphys park) on October 25, 2020 at
11:30 AM.
