Calaveras County Warming Centers to Reopen from 12pm to 8pm on December 30th.

San Andreas, CA…Due to extreme cold and the risk to the public the Calaveras County Warming Centers in Arnold, West Point, and Murphys will re-open at 12 pm.

Warming Centers have complementary Personal Resiliency Kits available (1 per person), thanks to our partners at PG&E. Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (OES) continues to work with operational partners throughout the county to clear roads, and restore power.

Calaveras County Road Information:

Requests for snow removal status during regular business hours (Monday – Friday from 8 am to 4 pm) can be made to Public Works Department at (209) 754-6401. Outside regular business hours please call the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department Business Line at (209) 754-6500.

Our Public Works Department has snow removal crews working around the clock on County maintained roads, while Caltrans continues to work clearing the State Highways.

As of 5 pm road closures due to down power lines and trees include:

East Murray Creek at Rail Road Flat Road, Mountain Ranch
Lily Gap Road past Skull Flat Road, West Point
Lower Moran Road, Arnold
Lightning Lane to Love Creek Road
Segale Drive to Lightning Lane

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Update

A 40 percent chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 5 mph after midnight. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Impacts:

Very difficult travel conditions with likely chain controls and possible road closures.
Low visibility due to a combination of wind and heavy snow.

Medium for timing/amounts for system early next week.

Moderate snow expected over the mountains through today; 1000-2000 feet across the Sierra Nevada with moderate impacts. Strong system early next week with potential for major impacts.
