A Busy New Year’s MEP For San Andreas CHP. One Fatality & Seven Accidents

San Andreas, CA…The New Year’s MEP (Maximum Enforcement Period) began at 6:00 pm Thursday, December 31st and continued until 11:59 pm Sunday, January 3rd. In Calaveras County the California Highway Patrol did not arrest anyone during this time period. Last year there were 4 arrests for Driving Under the Influence. Our officers handled seven accidents, none were DUI related and three resulted in injuries. Unfortunately we were unable to make it four years in a row without a fatality during this time period. We had ten fatalities for the year with the last one being on New Years Eve.

The San Andreas CHP Officers were working hard at slowing motorists down. During the holiday weekend they wrote twenty citations for speeding and six others for mechanical violations.
