Avery, CA…Ross Edward Sheely passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on April 27th, 2023 in Bakersfield, at the age of 80. He was born March 11, 1943 to Samuel and Alma Sheely in Evansville Indiana, and went on to graduate from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, in 1961. After graduation, Ross joined the Navy and served for two years while stationed in San Diego. After the Navy, he started working for 7UP Bottling Company and had 2 children during his first marriage where they eventually lived in Newbury Park.
After an attempted blind date, he met and married the love of his life, Judy, on May 17th, 1980 in Lake Tahoe. They lived in Bakersfield and, after falling in love with the mountains where his sister, Gloria lived, they built a vacation home in Arnold. Many beautiful memories were created with family at the cabin that included lots of fun trips to Lake Tahoe. They loved the area so much that they moved permanently to Avery.
Throughout his life he was able to travel to tropical destinations and enjoyed many camping adventures wherever the RV would take him. He loved his life up in the mountains and enjoyed his many friends, neighbors and coworkers. He also enjoyed being a volunteer sheriff, working security at Ironstone Vineyards, and being around all of his beloved dogs.
Ross is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy; his children Stacy (Wyatt) Wong, Jason (Tammy) Sheely, Monica (Matt) Rohre; his 8 grandchildren that thought the world of him, Kelly (Nick) Dooley, Cody (Molly) Wong, Mason Wong, James, Ashley and Jordan Sheely, Madison and Molly Rohre. He left 3 great-grandchildren that he absolutely adored: Logan and Taylor Dooley, and Chase Wong. He was also dearly loved by his nephew Chris (Chrissy) Correy, and his niece Kati (Paul) Jensen, and brother Dennis (Marty) Suihkonen. He joined his sister Gloria Correy who we lost just a few weeks prior to his passing.
A Celebration of life will be held on June 25th, at 2:00 PM at Ironstone Vineyards 1894 6 Mile Rd, Murphy’s, CA, 95247.
