Prescribed Burning in Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties

San Andreas, CA…California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will be completing hazardous fuel reduction burning in multiple locations as listed below from Friday, November 8th through Monday, November 18th, 2024. The goal of each prescribed burn is to reduce available fuels to slow the rate and spread of potential wildfire, and burning the reproduction of the brush that has been removed. The treatment areas combined encompass approximately 132 acres.

Burning is anticipated to begin between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last 6 to 8 hours each day contingent on favorable conditions. The public may see smoke or fire in these areas during these times. CAL FIRE personnel will patrol the ignited area until declared out.

Friday, November 8th
Wooster VMP- off Lanford Pacheco Road, north of Hunt Road in the Salt Springs Valley area of Calaveras County – 50 acres. This project was initial a hazardous fuel reduction grant that was masticated and is now signed as a VMP to utilize fire to remove the mastication.

Pine Mountain Lake VMP- near Groveland, Tuolumne County- 30 acres

Mokelumne Hill Cemetery Assist- Fuel break that surrounds the town of Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras County- 7 acres

Monday, November 11th through November 18th
Winton-Shaad VMP – along Winton, North Bald Mountain and Bald Mountain Roads, West Point Calaveras County- 45+ acres of timber understory. 2-5 acres plots burned daily.
