Pile Burning to Begin Across Mi-Wok/Summit District

Sonora, CA…(November 12, 2024) – Firefighters with the Stanislaus National Forest’s Mi-Wok/Summit Ranger District will begin pile burning operations, effective today, in the area of Clark’s Fork Road and Montgomery Meadow.

Resources intend to burn approximately 50-75 acres a day with a goal of 200 acres for the week. Burn Boss for the operation will be Jake Trevino with one Wildland Fire Module (a specially trained ten-person hand crew) as well as three engines assigned to the burn operation.

“Currently we have over 60,000 piles within 10,000 acres across the 2 districts. With fall / winter weather approaching we will begin in the areas that we historically loose access to once snow accumulates and then move down in elevation following the snow,” said Dan Guse, Mi-Wok/Summit District Fire Management Officer- Fuels. “Burning location will be prioritized based on weather, access, and proximity to the Wildland Urban Interface.”
