Murphys, CA…Robert (Bob) Mulvany passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024 at the age of 93 years. He was born in Eureka, California to Merle Mulvany, a plumber by trade, and Leota (Irene) Mulvany, a registered nurse. He grew up enjoying the outdoors of Humboldt County, and living near his extended family which included his Grandparents Lester and Ivy Mulvany.
By the time Bob reached Middle School the family had moved to the Bay Area of California where he attended Junior High, and Sequoia High School in Redwood City. After High School, Bob attended San Jose State for two years, dropping out to enlist in the Air Force. He later returned to San Jose State on the GI bill. While earning his BS degree, he took a part time job with the City of San Jose as an engineering trainee, which resulted in a career as an electrical engineer with the City of San Jose until retirement.
While Bob was in the Air Force he was stationed in England where he met and married his first wife, Betty Townsend. Their first daughter, Dawn, was born in England before his service ended. The family returned to California, and then moved to San Jose where his other three daughters, Ann, Denise, and Renee were born.
Bob’s favorite past time was scuba diving. He was an avid diver, and he loved diving off the California coast, with the Monterey Bay being his favorite. His other interests included being involved in local government, and writing articles that were published.
Bob was remarried to Rose Mulvany (Blankenship) in 1988. Bob and Rose enjoyed traveling together in the United States, as well as traveling to other countries. Murphys, California became their chosen and loved hometown, and they enjoyed their community and wonderful friends in Murphys for many years. They later moved to Pleasanton, CA where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, and daughter, Dawn.
Bob is survived by his daughters Ann Burke (Peter), Denise Fitzgerald (Kevin), Renee Mulvany, his eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Bob became a Christian later in life. He often commented on how lucky he was, and he truly appreciated the gifts he was given in his life of almost 94 years!
