Highway Violence Incident in Sonora

Jamestown, CA…On December 15, 2024, at approximately 2:10PM, Sonora CHP officers responded to the area of State Route 108 at Upper Mono Way for a Highway Violence incident which resulted in an injury. Upon CHP arrival, officers located the victim, a 57-year-old male resident of Tuolumne County, with a stab wound.

The victim indicated the suspect vehicle, a red 1998 Volkswagen Beetle, fled the scene after the incident and the passenger of the Beetle was responsible for the injuries to the victim. Approximately 15 minutes later, a Tuolumne County Sherriff Deputy located the suspect vehicle in the Soulsbyville Dollar General parking lot and detained the driver, 40-year-old Emilio Martinez of Tuolumne County.

Mr. Martinez was the only occupant in the Beetle at that time. As a result of the investigation, Mr. Martinez was placed under arrest for his involvement in the Highway Violence incident and transported to the Tuolumne County Jail. During a search, Mr. Martinez was found to be concealing narcotics and drug paraphernalia on his person. The victim was Medi flighted to an undisclosed hospital and treated for his wounds.

At this time, there has not been an arrest made on the person responsible for the stabbing. This incident remains under investigation and any further information will be provided to the public as it becomes available.
