Marion Eva Corley 1939 – 2024

Angels Camp, CA…Marion Eva Corley August 22nd,1939 – November 16th, 2024.  It is with great sadness that the family of Marion Eva Corley announces her passing on November 16, 2024, she was 85 years old. She passed away peacefully in her sleep with her two loving daughters by her side, holding her hand, and telling her how much she was loved.

Born on August 22, 1939, in London, England to Bobs and Eva Wendholt, she and her mum, her twin sister Irene, and their older sister Margaret, were soon after evacuated and moved to the small village of Great Stukeley in the English countryside, due to the outbreak of World War II. The family set up house, raised their three daughters, multiple pets and animals, as well as their own food, and her parents remained there for the remainder of their lives. She met her future husband, our father, Robbie Corley, Jr. who was in the Air Force and stationed at a base near her village in the United Kingdom and married on December 20th, 1967, after a brief courtship. After having their first daughter, JoAnne, they moved to the US, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they had a second daughter, Sarah. They were married for nearly 55 years until his death in 2022. They bought and remodeled a cozy little house and settled down in Redwood City, California, on a street lined with trees, with so many kids and friendly neighbors. That little home of ours welcomed many friends and family members over the years. She and our father created beautiful gardens in the tiny front and back yards; roses of all colors of the rainbow, fruit trees, the most delicious tomatoes, veggies, and herbs, massive, brightly colored bougainvillea hedges, morning glories, hanging baskets on their deck of beautiful fuchsia and always a nicely kept patch of green lawn. There were always hummingbirds flocking to the many feeders hung all around our house and yard.

After staying home for the first 10 years of our lives, she went back into the workforce and was a proud, dedicated, and beloved employee of Aehr Test Systems in Menlo Park for many years where she made many lifelong friends. When both she and our father retired in 2000, they sold their home, bought another one in the Sierra Foothills, in Angels Camp, and relocated there permanently. It’s a beautiful area they had vacationed in and visited for many years, just a couple of hours from the Bay Area. Sarah followed shortly after and purchased a home just a mile or so from them where she raised her own family, with our parents doting on their beloved grand babies Katie and Curtis, who grew up adoring their Nana and Grunch!

It is impossible to express just how wonderful she was in a simple obituary. We have a lifetime of memories to comfort us as we all now try to navigate a world without her in it. She brought light and joy to every room she walked into, to know her was truly to love her. She was sharp as a whip, with the best sense of humor. She could strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone, anywhere, and often did. She loved fashion and jewelry (and SHOES!) and was always dressed so impeccably and stylishly. She was always such an active woman, going for long walks, swimming, water aerobics classes, or going to her gym. She enjoyed the good things in life like wine tasting, dining out, travel (especially extended trips to visit family in Great Stukeley), musical theater, 50s/60s and classical music, and spending time out and about with friends. And she loved shopping! We could hardly keep up with her! But mostly she just enjoyed being in her home or on her deck, surrounded by her family, catching up, having meals, cocktails, or just a cup of tea together, or playing Mad Libs which usually resulted in fits of uproarious laughter.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Corley, Jr., her parents, Eva and Bobs Wendholt, and her two beloved sisters, her twin Irene Holohan, and her older sister Margaret Faulkner.

She leaves behind her two daughters JoAnne Wood in Lamoine, Maine, and Sarah Signorello, in Angels Camp, California, and their spouses Doug and Rob, respectively, her pride and joy grandkids, Katie and Curtis Kowski, and her sweet little doggie Lovey (who is now being loved and cherished by Sarah and her family for the rest of her days). She also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and countless friends far and wide who all loved her dearly.

A celebration of life is being planned for spring 2025. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Marion’s name, or that you simply go outside for a walk and enjoy the sunshine on your face and look at some beautiful flowers.
