Los Angeles, CA…In the wake of one of the most devastating natural disasters in California history, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the launch of LA Rises, a unified recovery initiative that brings together private sector leaders to support rebuilding efforts led by the city of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and the State of California. The Governor has enlisted Dodgers Chairman Mark Walter, business leader and basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and Casey Wasserman, LA28 Chairperson and President to lead and recruit others to this private sector and philanthropic effort.
To seed this new effort, Dodgers Chairman Mark Walter, the Mark Walter Family Foundation, and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation have provided an initial commitment of up to $100 million. With plans to raise additional funds through private donations, LA Rises will provide major resources aimed at helping Los Angeles communities most affected by these catastrophic fires recover and rebuild.
LA Rises will marshal the full resources of the private sector, augmenting and amplifying local and state resources, to rebuild Altadena, Pasadena, the Pacific Palisades, and all impacted communities.
As part of the unified effort, city and county leaders are crafting recovery plans for their communities. The state is mobilizing its resources and scale, coordinating with the federal government, and removing red tape. LA Rises will galvanize the private sector to unlock additional capital and find new and innovative tools to help communities build back faster and stronger.
“Los Angeles will rise again — stronger, more united, and more resilient than ever. Just as California came together to fight the fires, we’ll work together to rebuild. With Mark, Earvin and Casey’s proven leadership and deep commitment to Los Angeles, we’ll tap into the enormous creativity, experience, and resources of the private sector, alongside local, state, and federal efforts, to deliver a recovery that benefits all Angelenos.”
Governor Gavin Newsom
“The LA fires have wreaked havoc on LA’s neighborhoods. It’s time for those with means to come forward and make a positive impact to build back better.”
Dodgers Chairman Mark Walter
“This is a time for bold action. We’re bringing together the best resources and biggest hearts across California to ensure that every Angeleno — no matter their race, socioeconomic status, or neighborhood — has a chance to rebuild and thrive. This isn’t just about recovery; it’s about restoring communities while also making them more resilient and better than before.”
Earvin “Magic” Johnson
“I’ve been a lifelong Angeleno, and what I admire most about this city is its resilience and unity. There’s nothing Los Angeles can’t achieve. LA Rises will channel the unmatched creativity, resources, and generosity of the private sector to rebuild our city and pave the way for a stronger future.”
LA 28 President Casey Wasserman
“Given the scale and scope of damage and destruction the Eaton wildfire has left in its wake, I wholeheartedly welcome all the support from the state as well as the private sector as part of this initiative. By corralling and coordinating the work of philanthropy and private industry, this can complement our local recovery and rebuilding efforts, especially for our marginalized populations in Altadena who have lost everything. When it comes to supporting initiatives — like this one — that look to arm us with the resources to rebuild with a bottom-up approach, I’m all in.”
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger
“Efforts to rebuild are underway in the City of Los Angeles and this announcement will be a vital component of a comprehensive effort to bring Angelenos home. The number one question on the minds of Angelenos is about recovery and rebuilding. I am grateful that the Governor and the LA Rises initiative will be there to partner with us, developing solutions to support our work. In recent days, the strength and resilience of Los Angeles have been felt throughout the state, the nation and the world. I want to thank the Governor for his continued partnership and his collaboration during this difficult time for our city.”
Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass
How LA Rises will work
LA Rises will contribute through collaboration, access to capital and financial tools, leveraging innovation and private-sector investment to drive a faster recovery. It will support the broader recovery efforts by:
- Fundraising and expanding access to philanthropic and private capital
- Formulating financing strategies to close the gap between available resources and the cost to rebuild
- Collaborating with other philanthropic and community organizations to maximize the impact of ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts
- Supporting unified communication efforts to arm Angelenos with up-to-date, factual information, timelines for rebuilding, and available resources
In addition to the financial commitment from the Mark Walter Family Foundation, and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, LA Rises will receive financial support from California Rises, a statewide recovery initiative founded by Governor Newsom and First Partner Siebel Newsom after the 2018 Camp Fire. A partnership between the Governor’s Office and the California Fire Foundation, California Rises is dedicated to supporting communities impacted by the fires and firefighters and first responders who continue to serve on the frontlines.
Where is all this fire debris going to be hauled too? EVERYTIME I see a drone shot of the burnout, I see no progress! My gues it will go to the port of LA or will be trucked out to the desert, both very awkward solutions! Every site will have to scraped down to the mineral soil, all the underground and above ground utilities will have to be rebuilt, my guess is there won’t be any rebuilding for atleast 2 yrs, the permit process will practically have to be eliminated, what a mess to say the least!
The Palisades fire was very bad. However any swift rebuilding must use fire resistant materials.
Another wildfire like event is happening right now – the ICE raids on workers that perform the jobs no Americans want – picking crops, heavy labor work such as construction , meat packing, poultry processing and many service jobs such as janitorial , housekeeping , dish washing.
The farmers now are seeing the effects on their work force in orchards, dairies, etc, the overripe produce is spoiling.
Many farmers who the don injured with his farm tariffs in his last term, markets lost, are now seeing low commodity prices, as countries are looking at other sources in anticipation of more tariffs.
The wealthy are meeting right now in Florida to plot the next depression, as bush, the don caused with their tax cuts and deregulation of banking.
These billionaires doubled their wealth in the 2007 sub prime crash, the banks already too concentrated bought up more banks .
The billionaires again in 2003 again doubled their billions after Covid .
The wealthy use an economic depression to increase their wealth (disaster capitalism) and they are planning another crash with the don’s tariffs, deportations, and other executive orders aimed at many industries Biden helped such as solar, wind , electric cars .
Prepare for a huge inflation rise with produce showing this trend already.
If you mistakenly voted for the don to for deportation of migrants, and to lower inflation, you better prepare for a shock.
The Republicans are sociopaths, as once again ruin the futures of 95% of American families all to gain more billions for their owners.
Let’s face the facts, he ^^^ means no work Democrats are willing to do. Which is any work that requires getting out of bed in his mother’s trailer.
Trump just stopped funding for Meals on Wheels! He’s going to starve vulnerable seniors.
Sniveler if you’re hungry I have a tube steak waiting for you rare.
Sniveler? Anti was wondering if you’d like a miniature Vienna Sausage? And bring tweezers and a microscope if so.
Vienna sausage? More like a zit on a fleas penis
Got Water Gov. Smelt?
The don has in another authoritarian edict stopped all federal funding and grants to states, and agencies.
This is illegal , as by law all such moves must be passed by the House.
This another move by the don to ignore laws as he did in his first term illegally, and got away with it.
The don just ignores laws, and the Republican party totally captured by billionaires also ignores our laws.
We are now in a lawless oligarchy.
Google now has changed the label of the gulf of Mexico to America, as the don ordered.
You you ok with the radical changes in America?
You freedom is now in jeopardy
Many Latino voters for the don now regret their vote..

California invaded by the THOUSANDS
OF GOOD GUYS
Thousands of ICE officers have been dispatched to the San Diego border crossing as they prepare to take ‘100,000 immigrants’ back to Mexico and Central America in one of the biggest migrant raids in recent times. Marines have already descended on the area in an attempt to secure the crossing as President Trump ramped up his promise of cracking down on illegal immigration. Around 1,500 active duty troops were deployed to the nearly 2,000-mile border this week, including 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton in California.
Well why don’t you quit fucking whining like a little
Transgender pos on the Rag and do something? Do you think your whining and constant fuking crying has solved anything at all? When Biden was president you whined about Trump the entire time because you couldn’t find anything good about your idiot you voted for.
Waaaaaa waaaaa that’s all we hear from you Socialist bytches. STFU FOR ONCE IN YOUR PATHETIC LIFE
^^Dum effing beaners. Gullible too.
The don’s bot press secretary said on her first day “I will not lie to you”.
Sarah Huckabee said the same thing.
Immediately on their first days they spread lies.
The don’s press Sec said “Biden’s inflation policy caused the egg prices to rise”
This is a lie, as before when egg prices were much higher it was due to Avian Influenza, not anti inflation efforts.
So typical to hear “I will not lie to you” followed by lies.
The don’s stop order for grant, and state aid financing , is illegal by law.
This doesn’t matter to this anti law wannabe authoritarian.
The GOP must stand up for our laws, or they also are part of a fascist coup against our laws and government.
Proud MAGAs are anti American Democracy , laws.
Sounds like you explained Joie to a T! Wasn’t this article about the LA fires, then a Trump hater had all the answers to every other problem! If your so worried about the illegals, get your friends that are on welfare go learn how to pick the crops, milk the cows, prune the grapes, clean up your lots, mow your lawns, take care of your bratty children so neither of you are home being a mommy or daddy, the list goes on and on, in other words “ mow your own lawn”! By the way, half the grapes grown in Ca are wine grapes, they have no value as a food product, but like dew, they help you escape the real world!
I was wrong, 80% of the grapes grown in Ca are wine grapes, another reason to let that industry dry up!
^^You seem like a very reasonable person…….. NOT! STFU.
Good luck keep those farm prices down. Considering you chased all the farm workers away. There is stupid. And then there is trump republican stupid.
