San Andreas, CA…Since 2013, in recognition of American Heart Month each February, Soroptimist International of Calaveras County has partnered with Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center to provide free comprehensive lipid cholesterol screenings to women throughout the community. This long-standing initiative underscores both organizations’ commitment to improving women’s health and raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among women in the United States.
These screenings are essential in identifying risk factors early, allowing women to take proactive steps toward heart health. The program has benefited hundreds of women over the years, offering them critical health insights at no cost.
“We are proud to continue this vital partnership with Soroptimist International of Calaveras County,” said CJ Singh, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Philanthropy for Mark Twain Medical Center. “Access to preventive healthcare is crucial, especially in rural communities, and this program reflects our shared commitment to empowering women with the knowledge and resources they need to protect their heart health.”
Soroptimist International of Calaveras County remains dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through programs that support health, education, and economic empowerment.
“Heart disease is often called the ‘silent killer’ because its symptoms can be subtle,” said Kelli Rupe, President of Soroptimist International of Calaveras County. “By providing these free screenings, we are ensuring that women in our community have access to early detection, which can ultimately save lives.”
The free cholesterol screenings will be available throughout February at Mark Twain Medical Center. Women interested in participating are encouraged to bring their photo ID to the MTMC Laboratory Monday through Friday from 7 am to 1 pm for their no-cost screening. You must start fasting 12 hours prior to your visit for accurate results.
