Christopher Joseph Porras 1948 ~ 2025

Murphys, CA…Christopher Joseph Porras June 24, 1948 ~ March 1, 2025 (age 76). It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chris Porras, who passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2025 at the age of 76. He was surrounded by his loving family.

A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Chris served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His courage, dedication, and unwavering loyalty to his fellow Marines were a testament to his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, Chris pursued his passion for business, founding Hardware Express in Calaveras County, specializing in automotive parts. He took great pride in driving up and down California, building lasting relationships with customers, and pouring his heart into his work. Known for his incredible work ethic, Chris retired at the age of 70, always speaking fondly of the career he cherished and the people he met along the way.

Beyond his career, Chris was a devoted family man, a proud father, and a loyal friend. He made his home in Murphys, California, where he was known for his kindness, integrity, generosity, competitive spirit, and, of course, his rugged good looks.

Chris had a lifelong passion for sports, particularly basketball, baseball, and golf, spending countless hours on the course enjoying the game. His passion for sports also extended into coaching, where he found great joy in mentoring young athletes—primarily his daughters!

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maralyn; daughters, Ashley (Ryan) French and Courtney (Vince) Ferrante; his cherished granddaughter, Grace French; and siblings, Cynthia, Nancy, and Randy, who will forever hold his memory close.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Murphys, California, to honor Chris’ life, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you honor Chris’ memory by hugging a veteran. Chris’ legacy of strength, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Semper Fi
