Arnold, CA…A young Arnold couple had a scary over 20 minute encounter with Mountain Lion Mom this afternoon. They were on a walk this afternoon on the Cougar Rock section of the Arnold Rim Trail accessed from Valley View Drive Trailhead. First they spotted a smaller Mountain Lion and then a large Mountain Lion presumably the mother started following them at close range.
They threw rocks, acted large, yelled etc, and kept her at bay. She kept following them even with the trail’s twists and turns. She at times came within approximately 20ft.
They called and spoke with the USFS and the Calaveras Ranger District sent personnel to the area.
While you are out enjoying the local trails be aware of your surroundings an keep an eye out for our local critters. Mountain Lion sightings and an increase of lost pets etc are strong circumstantial evidence of a higher than normal local Mountain Lion population.
So happy y’all are safe, just keep in mind we’re in there home. , !!!
Here kitty-kitty!!
cat following anteye and snivvy???
Always carry in the woods. Oh, that’s right, you can’t do that in Commiefornia.
Always someone wanting to pop off without thinking first.
Seems more protective than predatory.
