Leveraging Favorable Conditions Broadcast Burning to Begin in Groveland

Groveland, CA…Taking advantage of recent precipitation and proper fuel conditions, crews on the Stanislaus National Forest’s Groveland Ranger District will begin broadcast burning operations on Monday, April 7, 2025 on the China Ridge Burn Units in the area of Hobron Hill. (See attached maps for China Ridge North).

“Over the last week to week and a half crews on the district have been able to get a significant amount of prep work done in the area,” said Groveland District Ranger Jim Junette. “Along with the recent weather we’ve seen, we have the right conditions to begin burning on these units.”

All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts. Crews will look to burn between 50 – 200 acres daily.

Smoke may be visible from Smith Station Road, and Highway 120 with some down canyon drift smoke visible in the evening and early morning. This project is a planned prescribed fire. Please do not report as a wildland fire.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to Forest Public Affairs Officer, Benjamin Cossel: benjamin.cossel@usda.gov or 209.288.6261.
