Angels Camp, CA…Mrs. Rosalind Ave Cathcart May 6, 1948 ~ April 23, 2025 (age 76). Rosalind Ave Cathcart, affectionately known as Roz, peacefully departed from this world on April 23, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by her beloved family in Angels Camp, CA. Born on May 6, 1948, in Sonora, CA, Roz was a woman of strength, independence, and love, who touched the lives of many around her.
Roz’s early years were spent in the picturesque Camp Nine, where her father oversaw the PG&E power house. Those formative days were sprinkled with cherished memories of spending time with her Nana in Jamestown, fostering a deep sense of family that she carried throughout her life. A proud alumna of Bret Harte High School, she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1965, and graduated the following spring of 1966. She furthered her education at Columbia College, earning an Associate’s Degree in 1968.
On September 19, 1970, Roz married Richard Cathcart, her loving partner for over five decades, and together they built a beautiful family. Roz’s heart swelled with pride for her daughters, Kellie and Kristie, and even more so for her adored grandchildren, William, Gradie and Kendall. They were her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Roz was a woman of many passions, including her beloved home garden, kayaking in our beautiful mountain lakes, and of course golf, which she embraced in 1996 with the opening of Greenhorn Creek golf course. Her community spirit was evident through her participation in her early years in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society, Angelus Ranus 4-H, and later the Greenhorn Creek Ladies Club. She was a behind-the-scenes supporter of Bret Harte High
School athletics as the partner of a teacher/coach/athletic director. Whether it was late night film exchanges, keeping stats, preparing team dinners or hospitality rooms, manning snack bars or the admission gate, Roz’s commitment was unwavering.
Those who knew Roz would describe her as strong-willed and fiercely independent, yet immensely loyal and loving. Her friendships were treasured, and her family was the center of her universe. Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and life lived with purpose and grace.
Preceded in death by her parents Oliver “Garce” and Margaret “Ave” Garcia, Roz leaves behind a family that will forever hold her in their hearts: her devoted husband, Richard, her daughters Kellie (Eric) Peters and Kristie Cathcart, her grandchildren William and Kendall Taylor and Gradie Wright, and her sister, Valerie Anderson.
We invite all who knew and loved Roz to join us in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 10, 2025, 11am-1pm, at 937 Goldcliff Road, Angels Camp, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Adventist Health Sonora Cancer Center and Adventist Health Sonora Hospice.
