Angels Camp, CA…On April 28, 2025, at approximately 11:43PM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department along with Deputies from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Angels Camp following a report of a shot being fired inside of the residence. Upon arrival, the officers located a victim who was found deceased as the result of a single gunshot wound.
The initial investigation suggested the possibility that the victim may have shot himself intentionally. However, as evidence was collected and additional information was received, it was determined that the incident was likely the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm. While specific details of the incident are not yet being released, the Angels Camp Police Department wishes to address community concerns by clarifying that this incident was not associated with bullying, despite rumors that may have circulated. The investigation has revealed no evidence linking the student’s death to such social issues.
“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, friends, and all who have been touched by this tragic incident,” said Chief Scott Ellis. “We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and providing clarity to the community as we are able.”
