Two members of the violent MS-13 gang have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in a previously unsolved 2010 murder, following an investigation by ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New England.
Jose Vasquez, also known as “Cholo” and “Little Crazy,” was sentenced to 25 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. In May, he pleaded guilty to committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering. Vasquez was already serving a 212-month sentence from a 2018 federal conviction for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise. He will now serve a total of 37 years in prison for the MS-13-related crimes.
Additionally, Salvadoran national William Pineda Portillo, also known as “Humilde,” was sentenced to 16 years in prison and three years of supervised release. He is subject to deportation after completing his sentence. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise.
The two men were indicted by a federal grand jury last September along with other MS-13 members. Authorities say the men conspired to murder a 28-year-old man in 2010. The victim was found by law enforcement with approximately 10 stab wounds to his chest and back and later died at the hospital.
A recent reexamination of evidence identified Vasquez and other MS-13 members as responsible for the killing. Investigators also found that Pineda Portillo picked up Vasquez, additional gang members, and the victim, then drove them to the location where the murder occurred.
After the killing, Pineda Portillo fled to El Salvador. He returned to the US in 2015 but was deported in 2017. Around five years later, he was arrested while attempting to illegally cross the border from Mexico into Texas. Following his arrest, he admitted to being an MS-13 member. A fingerprint analysis revealed there was a warrant for his arrest.

A Haitian illegal immigrant living in a taxpayer-funded shelter in Massachusetts has confessed to raping and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter.
On July 11, 44-year-old Ronald Joseph pleaded guilty to aggravated rape of a child, per Fox News. Joseph had been living in a government-run hotel shelter in Marlborough, Massachusetts, where he repeatedly sexually assaulted his daughter between 2023 and 2024. He was not arrested until January 2025 and has been held without bail since then. The abuse was reported by the shelter’s then-manager, Jon Fetherston.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Marlborough Police Chief David Giorgi confirmed Joseph’s guilty plea Thursday. Judge Kenneth Salinger sentenced him to 12 to 15 years in prison.
As part of the investigation, authorities collected a buccal swab from Joseph after the victim gave birth. The DA’s office stated, “Those samples were sent to a forensic testing laboratory, and on January 24, 2025, it was determined that not only was the defendant the biological father of the victim, it was also twenty-three trillion times more likely than not, that he was the biological father of the victim’s baby.”
Fetherston sent a letter last month to US Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the Department of Justice to investigate the state’s shelter system. In the letter, he warned of “a disturbing pattern of criminal activity, sexual assaults, financial abuse, and the widespread use of no-bid contracts.

Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, 52, was arrested by ICE in Chicago Saturday afternoon.
“It is absolutely repulsive this monster walked free on Illinois’ streets after allegedly committing such a heinous crime,” a DHS spokesperson told the outlet.
“Megan Bos and her family will have justice.”
Mendoza-Gonzalez was first arrested in April after police discovered the 37-year-old victim’s headless body stuffed inside a bleach-soaked storage bin in the yard of his Waukegan home, officials said.
He allegedly told police the woman, who was reported missing in March after vanishing in February, had overdosed at his home, and instead of calling authorities, broke her phone, hid her body in the basement for two days, and later moved it outside, the outlet reported.
But police said Bos’s corpse had been rotting in his yard for nearly two months before it was found.
Mendoza-Gonzalez was locked up but released about 48 hours later under the state’s controversial SAFE-T Act, which abolished cash bail and allows judges to determine jail time, no matter how severe the crime is, Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner said at the time.
“I was shocked to find out literally the next day that the person that they had arrested for this had been released from prison under the SAFE-T Act less than, detained less, I think, than 48 hours,” he said, the outlet reported.

The Wall Street Journal reports that one of the documents in the justice department files on the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is a bawdy letter Donald Trump sent to Epstein for his 50th birthday, in 2003.
According to the newspaper, which is owned by Trump supporter Rupert Murdoch, Trump had been asked to write a birthday letter to Epstein by Ghislaine Maxwell, who asked dozens of his friends and associates to contribute pages for a leather-bound album to mark his birthday.
Pages from the album – assembled before Epstein was first arrested in 2006- were examined by justice department officials who later investigated Epstein and Maxwell, the Journal says.
The letter bearing Trump’s name, which was reviewed by the Journal’s reporters, “contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker. A pair of small arcs denotes the woman’s breasts, and the future president’s signature is a squiggly ‘Donald’ below her waist, mimicking pubic hair.” The Journal reports that letter concludes: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
