San Andreas, CA…August 22nd, 2025, signified the culmination of a lengthy and distinguished law enforcement career filled with dedication, service, and memorable moments. Captain Ed Ballard retired from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office after providing over thirty-four years of dedicated service. In addition to serving Calaveras County as a Law Enforcement Officer, Captain Ballard worked as a peace officer in San Joaquin County and served in the United States Navy. In 1991, Captain Ballard transitioned his public service to the county where he grew up, and he has been dedicated to serving the citizens of Calaveras County ever since.
While it’s challenging to capture all 34 years of dedicated service, here are a few highlights from Captain Ballard’s remarkable career. Ed Ballard served in various roles, including patrol, investigations, narcotics, animal services, and court security. He earned a position as an operator on the Sheriff’s SWAT team and led the Narcotics Unit during the dangerous era of Clandestine Methamphetamine Labs. In 1992, Ed Ballard was deployed to the Los Angeles Riots, where he worked with other law enforcement agencies to uphold peace and protect property. In 2007, he was assigned to a leadership group that wrote and successfully passed Measure J, which provided tax-based funding for a new Jail facility. When funds were secured, Ed Ballard led the design and construction of the new Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Jail, managing the dedicated team of Sheriff’s Office employees who planned the transition into the current Sheriff’s Office facility.
Ed Ballard also managed Animal Services when the Sheriff’s Office operated that agency. In this role, he implemented policies and procedures that are still in effect today, and he demonstrated his compassion for helping both people and animals.
Ed Ballard has spent the last several years assigned to the Special Operations Division of the Sheriff’s Office. In this role, he has coordinated responses to mutual aid incidents and worked as a liaison to other agencies during fires and disasters. He has been further tasked with ensuring that the Sheriff’s Office is consistently equipped with vehicles and major equipment.
Ed Ballard has been a dedicated member of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. He has left his mark on the community of Calaveras and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. His career is notable and commendable, and worthy of honor and recognition.
We wish him a well-earned retirement. As he begins this new chapter, we hope it brings him much joy, relaxation, and fulfillment. His legacy will always remain an inspiration to us all.

RNC senior adviser Danielle Alvarez said that while the GOP has a winning message and $84 million in cash on hand heading into next year’s congressional midterm elections, “every metric looks bad for the Democrats.”
“They have no leader, they have no message, they have no policies,” Alvarez told Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” on Wednesday. “And because they have no leader, what you’re seeing is individuals continuing to move further to the left to raise their profile.
“You just saw [Sen.] Cory Booker [D-N.J.] shout someone down on the Senate floor. It’s really bad and embarrassing and, in stark contrast, we saw that meeting for three hours yesterday, the [Trump] Cabinet meeting, where everyone is working together, everyone is working for the American people. Just really bad for Democrats, and as we’ve talked about together, it’s all about leading well. It’s all about making sure that we govern well, with the mandate we received in November, heading into these midterm elections.”
After watching the recent Democratic National Committee meeting, Alvarez said that she “was just grateful they didn’t sing and break out into hymn like they did in the previous one.”
“Just when you think the Democrats hit rock bottom, they keep spiraling downward,” she said. “It’s pretty embarrassing for them.”
Meanwhile, everything is “moving smoothly” for Republicans, Alvarez said, with $84 million in cash on hand to ensure that President Donald Trump “has the war chest” to maintain the GOP’s congressional majorities and “make sure he has four full years” to get things done in his second term.
“Democrats, I’m not sure what you’re doing,” she said. “Their burn rate is pretty embarrassing, too. They’re spending money on trying to appeal to white men. I heard they recently fired that staffer because it’s just not going in the right direction for them.”
A large part of the reason the Democrats are floundering, Alvarez said, is because “they’re just completely out of step” with Americans on their priorities.
“To hear them say the words out loud, that nobody cares about carjackings and crime, everyone across America cares about safety in our communities,” she said. “That’s why President Trump is so successful – he’s brought safety to Washington D.C. … It’s really important what this president is doing.
“Let’s look at The New York Times, who was forced to write about voter registration trends. Republicans are up a net of about 2.4 million, Democrats are down a net of 2.1. That delta is 4.5 million switch in voter registration for Republicans and, I just have to brag, my home state of Florida is leading that trend. We are now up 1.3 million Republican voters. When President Obama was in office, we were down about half a million to Democrats.”

The Democratic National Committee has been holed up in Minnesota for their annual summer meeting and they’ve been addressing their policy platforms. These include their affirmation to diversity equity inclusion, child sex changes, open borders, not prosecuting crime and really hating Donald Trump and everyone who voted for him.
The Resolutions Committee of the DNC unanimously passed the resolution to affirm what they have called the “American Values of diversity, equity and inclusion.” The Trump administration has been doing away with this concept, saying instead that merit, and not racial, ethnic, or gender identity should be a deciding factor in policy, employment, or college admissions. That resolution will be up for a vote on Wednesday by the whole DNC.
DNC chairman Ken Martin complained that that he was “sick and tired of this Democratic Party bringing a pencil to a knife fight. We cannot be the only party that plays by the rules anymore.”
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison got big applause when he said they’ve sued Trump over “gender affirming care,” saying “we are not going to scapegoat our transgender community.” The Trump campaign was able to tap into Americans’ desire for fairness in competition when they exposed the Democrats’ insistence that men who claim to be women should compete in women’s sports.
The issue revealed that some 80% of Americans favor fairness over “inclusion” of men who say they are women. “Kamala is for they/them, Donald Trump is for you,” the ad from the Trump campaign said.
