Does the food stamp program need to be audited to get rid of the fraudulent users of the program? Of course it does. Nobody wants the needy, elderly, or children to go hungry, but there are a lot of people on there that are taking benefits away from those who actually need them. So I thought I would give a couple local examples I am sure we are all at least a little familiar with.
I worked at a general store in the heart of the invasion of our county be the pot grows of ten+ years ago. We would get many many able-bodied young people who worked at these grows coming in, spending hundreds of dollars each with their SNAP and EBT cash cards, because they could qualify for them by claiming unemployment etc while they were paid under-the-table.
Then there is the guy who lived with his dad over somewhere in the Valley Springs area. His father had died in the house, and this fellow left his father to rot in his chair so he could continue to receive the father’s SNAP, EBT cash and SS benefits. That’s right, he lived in the house while his dad rotted in the living room. Fortunately, he was eventually caught.
And of course I know we are all familiar with the homeless-by-choice young folks out there who would rather get a SNAP and EBT cash handout then just go get a job. Instead they crawl all over the neighborhoods robbing, or hanging out in front of stores with cardboard signs asking for more free money.
Plenty of people could be purged from the program, including dead people, and that would mean more benefits for those who actually need it.
Well, time to go to work so I can pay my share into the SNAP EBT programs. Have a good morning and day, everyone!
