Sonora, CA…Firefighters with the Stanislaus National Forest are actively responding to the lightning caused Gianelli Fire. Located near the Gianelli Trail Head off Forest Road 4N47 the seven-acre fire shows no immediate concerns to life, structures or property.
Due to high fuel moistures and heavy concentration of fuels in the area firefighters will implement a confine and contain strategy using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST).
“Resources will utilize nearby road systems and natural barriers to create a containment line around the fire area,” said Summit Distrct Fire Management Officer, Shaun Craig. “Once roads have been properly prepared, tactical firing will commence to halt fire spread. Evaluation of the current conditions and seasonality indicate the potential for large fire growth or extreme fire behavior is minimal.”
Questions or concerns should be directed to Forest Public Affairs Officer, Benjamin Cossel, benjamin.cossel@usda.gov or 209-288-6261.

It is baffling how these remote fires start.
