Marc D. Menefee 1951 ~ 2025

Arnold, CA…Marc D. Menefee January 26, 1951 ~ November 25, 2025 (age 74). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marc Douglas Menefee. Marc was born on January 26, 1951, to Walt “Big D” and Shirley “Stub” Menefee in Richland, Washington. At the age of six, Marc and his family moved to Thousand Oaks, California, where he spent his childhood and later graduated from high school and college.

After completing his education, Marc began his career at Bunker Ramo Corporation. He distinguished himself as one of the youngest supervisors to receive military top-secret clearance, overseeing the production of electronic keyboards for Naval Submarines. Later, Marc seized an opportunity to purchase a small gas station convenience store in Arnold, California. Together with his parents, Marc relocated to Arnold 47 years ago and successfully owned and operated Arnold Shell for two decades.

Marc was a dedicated member of the Calaveras County Search and Rescue (SAR), a commitment that profoundly influenced his life and led him to serve with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department. In 2014, Corporal Menefee retired from his law enforcement career. Marc found joy in living in a close-knit community, always looking out for others and cherishing the small-town spirit.

Marc enjoyed travelling to tropical destinations, embracing local island cultures, and learning the importance of family unity from residents. His passion for speed began with motorcycle racing and extended to car, drag, and boat racing. He was fond of exploring the back country around Ebbetts Pass and relished cutting firewood to keep his mother warm throughout the year. Marc also played in the adult softball league for team Meadowmont, coached by Marv Yarnell, which brought him much laughter and joy.

One of Marc’s favorite stories involved the annual frog jump event. Friends Lemon and Sage were practicing for the demolition derby in front of Arnold Shell, causing a commotion on highway 4. When a concerned customer suggested calling the police, Marc reassured her, saying, “Lady, they are best friends practicing for the demolition derby”.

Marc was proceeded in death by his parents Walt and Shirley Menefee, and his brother Gary Menefee. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 36 years, Jennifer; his sons Derek (Cristen) and Cody; his brother Bruce (Charlie); his granddaughter Eleanor Paige; and his nephews Hayden and Dylan.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Marc’s life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to:
