San Andreas, CA…Meet Chonkers (A059873), a neutered male Anatolian Shepherd mix, estimated at about 8 years old and tipping the scales at 113 pounds.
Chonkers arrived at Calaveras County Animal Services after being found wandering near Sheep Ranch and Mountain Ranch Road. Clearly well-fed—perhaps overly so—no owner ever came forward, despite the shelter’s attempts to locate them. Now this gentle giant is looking for a fresh start and a family who will cherish him.
From the moment he arrived, Chonkers has won hearts. In spite of his size, he is surprisingly energetic and loves
his morning walks, trotting along with enthusiasm and encouraging his handler to keep up. He’s even started to shed a few pounds with regular exercise. A healthy routine and balanced diet in a loving home will go a long way toward helping him reach a more comfortable weight—he’s already proving he’s up for the challenge.
Chonkers’ temperament is as lovely as his fluffy coat. He’s calm, friendly, and wonderfully even-keeled with every dog he’s met. When another dog barks or gets worked up, Chonkers simply sniffs politely and moves along—confident, composed, and entirely uninterested in drama. With people, he is affectionate and enjoys the attention, especially when it involves brushing that thick, beautiful coat.
This sweet boy is also reliably housebroken at the shelter and takes care of his business promptly when brought outside. With kindness, routine, and comfort, he is sure to settle smoothly into home life.
