Hey Good People! Mattly Trent’s Weather Forecast for December 31st!

Bear Valley, CA…Hey Good People! The last day of the year is here and with it arrives the next weather system which looks to stick around for the next 5 or 6 days.

The current temp at 7am is 34F yet we will see that rise to about 37F for the high today and should stay there for most of the coming night. We have a warm front moving over us and with that rain is expected to start falling later in the afternoon and through the night. The next 36Hrs could up to 1-1.5″ of rain before turning to a mix of snow and rain on New Years Day. That may spill over into Friday before the colder air mass drops down over NorCal and turns to all snow. Friday night 3-5″ of snow is expected to fall with another 7-11″ falling on Saturday! The current model runs show heavy snow possible for Sunday through Monday evening but another day or so is needed for the models to give a more accurate total for those days.

For Thursday snow elevations are 7500-8500′ and above
6500′ by Friday afternoon and then dropping down to the 5500′ level Friday night for the remainder of the current cycle.

Winds look to be fairly mild initially during this cycle with average winds in the low to mid teens and gusting into the upper 20’s and then ramping up a bit into the 40’s on occasion as the weekend arrives.

Despite the falling rain initially, it’s going to be a good week for snowfall production and beefing up the snowpack for us at the BVAC Nordic Center as well as the Downhill resort.

Backcountry Conditions are showing “Low” avalanche hazards as per S.A.C. but will shift into the considerable range at minimum with the expected snowfall starting Friday. Check them out daily for any changes that may occur:
