Bear Valley, CA…Hey Good People! Here we go………..1″ of new snow fell at the 7000′ mark overnight with just over 3″ falling at the downhill resort. Winds overnight averaged in the teens with some gusting up near the 30mph mark.
Today however things will start to shift into high gear as the front looks to drop snow at the 7000′ elevation- 5-9″ today, 8-12″ tonight, 12-18″ Sunday, 8-12″ Sunday night, and another 4-7″ for Monday.
The 8000′ elevation will see a little bit more, so downhill skiing and riding will be off the hook.
Winds will pick up today as the surface gradient tightens up so winds in the mid teens and gusting into the 40’s will be felt today as well as tonight and through tomorrow before settling back down into the 20mph range come later Sunday evening.
Impressive snowfall totals for sure but the system is running a bit warm with temps overnight hovering around 30F but then dropping into the mid 20’s come Monday. Snow densities will feel heavier for the next 36hrs before the colder air moves in and lightens things up a bit. Having said that this next 36hrs is what we really need to build the base up before the colder Monday air brings some epic light powder skiing and riding.
As I mentioned last week, the impacts of this volume of snow will slow travel as well as skiing and riding operations at both the Nordic and Downhill areas as well as the town of BV.
SLow your role and remember, as a collective we all get it done together!!! Backcountry conditions will more than likely move into the considerable hazard range also.
