Angels Camp, CA…Bret Harte’s inaugural Ski and Snowboard Team has proven successful this far in their winter season. This small, but mighty team, traveled to Sierra in Tahoe on Monday, January 12 to compete in the season’s first competition in the California-Nevada Interscholastic Ski & Snowboard Federation’s South 1 Division.

Women student-athletes competed on a Giant Slalom (GS) course among athletes from 53 high schools, such as Union Mine, Oak Ridge, El Dorado, Ponderosa, Amador and Argonaut. Freshman Kenan Dragomanovich finished third with a combined time of 73.96. Behind Dragomanovich, was sophomore Emma Shawkey finishing sixth (75.81), sophomore Lois Miles 11th (80.50), and junior Karly Ritchie-Shields 14th (83.12).
“For a first-time competition in the league, Bret Harte sure made an impact to the first showing on the league and especially since all scrimmages or early season tournaments were slalom races, the team had very little practice on their GS skis,” shared head coach Nikolai Shawkey.
Success continued Wednesday, January 21, again in Tahoe, at the second competition. Once again, freshman Kenan Dragomanovich finished third with a combined time of 76.31. Sophomore Emma Shawkey finished seventh (77.30).
