Newest Calaveras County Recruits Graduate from the Police Academy

San Andreas, CA…The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the addition of three academy graduates to our law enforcement team. On January 29, 2026, Calaveras County Deputies Caden Villegas, Nils Barrett, and Jacob Gavrillis graduated from the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy (Class 61-25).

Over the past six months, the deputies completed more than 950 hours of rigorous physical and academic training and are now prepared to serve the citizens of Calaveras County. During today’s ceremony, Deputy Barrett was honored with the Code of Ethics Award, which is presented to the recruit who best exemplifies the values of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics throughout the duration of the academy. The Sheriff’s Office would also like to recognize and thank Deputies Jacob Gavrillis and Caden Villegas for their prior service in the United States Marine Corps, bringing with them a strong foundation of discipline, leadership, and commitment to service.

Beginning next week, the deputies will be assigned to a 16-week Field Training Program. This program consists of three phases, each designed to build upon the previous phase and provide them with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to serve independently as solo patrol deputies.

Calaveras County Sheriff Rachelle Whiting addressed the graduates during the ceremony, which included their on-stage swearing-in and recognition of their commitment to the oath of office. Sheriff Whiting emphasized the pride, responsibility, and safety that come with serving the community, stating:

“You now have the honor of serving one of the most resilient and supportive communities in California. Wear your badge with pride, treat every person with respect, and never forget that your safety matters, especially during the hardest moments when our community is relying on you.”

Please join us in welcoming Deputies Caden Villegas, Nils Barrett, and Jacob Gavrillis to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office as they begin their careers in law enforcement.

Sheriff Whiting would also like to congratulate the City of Angels Camp on the recent academy graduation of Officer Justin Hart. We look forward to continuing to work alongside the Angels Camp Police Department and its community members.
