Angels Camp, CA…William Franklin “Bill” Hutchinson, 80, of Angels Camp, a longtime teacher and coach and a former Mayor of Angels Camp, died Jan. 28 in Sacramento. Bill was born in Sonora and lived in Angels Camp all his life.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, then went on to teach at Bret Harte High School for 34 years before his retirement While there, he coached football and softball, which he truly enjoyed as well as being a talented wood-shop teacher. His love for sports showed also in his avid support of the San Francisco Giants baseball team and the 49ers football team.
He served on the Angels Camp City Council from 2002 to 2009, during which time he served as mayor.
He also was a member of the Murphys Angels Lions Club for more than 20 years, for which he served as secretary, and of the Angels Camp Gun Club for decades.
He enjoyed camping in his RV in his leisure time, but he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren most of all.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette Hutchinson, of Angels Camp; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Jamie Hutchinson, of Angels Camp, and Ken and Marni Vossler, of Sanger; and six grandchildren, Sydney and Joe Hutchinson, of Angels Camp, and Aiden, Micah, Kyler and Tobyn Vossler, of Sanger.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Hutchinson, in 1963; his mother, Jean Hutchinson, in 2006; and his father, Elwood “Cowboy” Hutchinson, in 1977.
A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Angels Camp Gun Club, 2403 Gun Club Road, Angels Camp.
