Travel Advisory for Visitors from Calaveras Sheriff’s Dept

San Andreas, CA…Calaveras County continues to experience serious impacts from the ongoing winter storm. Conditions along the Highway 4 corridor remain unpredictable. Power outages extend from just above Murphys through Arnold and past Dorrington, and many roads are still blocked by heavy snow, ice, downed trees, and power lines.
According to the PG&E website, as of 02/19/26 at 5:00 pm, roughly 9,105 customers in Calaveras County are without power. https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/outage-tools/outage-map/

Deputies, Probation Officers, Fire Crews, Utility Crews, and County/State Road Crews are putting in long hours under difficult conditions to clear roadways, restore power, and reach stranded residents. These efforts are ongoing and require significant personnel and equipment.

We have also received additional support from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, and Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies have provided four two-person UTVs to assist in reaching residents stranded by heavy snowfall.

We are asking anyone who does not live in the affected areas to avoid unnecessary travel or recreational activities until conditions improve. Our priority right now is assisting the many families who are still awaiting evacuation from their homes.

For those with planned trips to the area, we strongly encourage you to contact your lodging provider or destination directly to confirm access and availability before traveling.

Every avoidable incident pulls limited resources away from critical life-safety operations. It is important that we maintain the ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies during this time.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as crews continue working around the clock.
Updates will be provided as conditions change.
