San Andreas, CA…On February 18th, 2026, Calaveras Sheriff Rachelle Whiting met with members of the California Valley Miwok Tribal Council at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters in San Andreas. Council Chairwoman Antoinette Del Rio scheduled the meeting to review the tribe’s history, discuss cultural resources, and strengthen positive relations with the Sheriff’s Office and Native community members residing in Calaveras County.
In conjunction with this meeting, today on March 4th, the Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency facilitated a Native Community Round Table in San Andreas, which Sheriff’s Office personnel attended. This is the third year of these meetings providing an opportunity for local governmental agencies and service providers to connect with Native community members, address any community concerns, raise awareness of federally and non-federally recognized tribes in our area, and increase cultural awareness and education.
By engaging in sustained community dialogue, our Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bridging any gaps between public expectations and policing outcomes through improvement of services and processes.
If anyone is interested in participating in future Native Community Round Table meetings, please contact Jennifer Pruden with Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency at (209) 754-6670.
