San Andreas, CA…Meet Longfellow (A060459), a male Long-Haired Dachshund mix, about 3 years old and weighing 42 pounds. Longfellow is quite the distinctive fellow—long-bodied, fluffy-coated, and full of quiet charm. Found straying on Gold Strike Road in San Andreas, he has been settling in at Calaveras County Animal Services and getting to know the people who care for him. While he may take a moment to size things up, once he feels comfortable, his gentle and loyal nature quickly shines through.
Longfellow has formed sweet bonds with the staff members who spend time with him, happily joining them for walks and companionship. He seems to enjoy being close to his trusted people and appreciates calm, patient attention. Around other dogs at the shelter, he has been easygoing and cooperative.
On leash, Longfellow is enthusiastic and surprisingly strong for his size, so he’ll benefit from continued leash training and guidance. He listens well and responds to gentle correction, which suggests he’ll do nicely with a little consistency and practice.
Longfellow would likely thrive in a home that offers stability, patience, and plenty of time together. His thoughtful personality and affectionate loyalty make him a rewarding companion for someone who appreciates a dog that forms close bonds with the people he trusts.
