Avery, CA…On March 31st, 2026, over 100 first responders from across Calaveras County took part in an active shooter training exercise at Avery Middle School. The training emphasized collaboration among law enforcement, fire services, and other emergency responders, focusing on rapid access to victims, the delivery of critical medical care, and enhanced survivability during hostile incidents.
Throughout the exercise, participants refined communication strategies, clarified roles and responsibilities, and strengthened their ability to work as a unified team under high-pressure conditions. This training is part of an annual countywide initiative, held at different locations to ensure all communities are prepared for emergencies.
We would like to thank our fire partners, both state and local, and all of the allied agencies that participated. We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous work of all the volunteer role players and their efforts in supporting the training.
