San Andreas, CA…Meet Radar (A059959), a neutered male Border Collie mix, about 4 years old and 56.4 pounds. Radar has been waiting at Calaveras County Animal Services since November, and everyone who knows him is hoping this cheerful, affectionate dog will finally catch the eye of the person meant for him. With his warm amber eyes, constantly wagging tail, and unmistakable smile, Radar has a way of making people grin right back at him.
He’s the kind of dog who seems genuinely happy just to be included in whatever is going on. Volunteers describe him as playful, people-loving, and full of joyful energy. Radar adores attention and is always ready to roll over for belly rubs, soaking up affection with complete trust and enthusiasm. Even after months in the shelter, he has held onto his upbeat spirit.
Radar also enjoys the company of other dogs and has consistently shown himself to be social and friendly during introductions. He would likely thrive in an active home where he can enjoy regular walks, playtime, and companionship. He still gets excited on leash and can pull at times, but he responds well to guidance and clearly wants to please. He already knows “sit” and “down,” takes treats gently, and continues to work on his manners.
What makes Radar especially heartbreaking is how easy it is to picture him as someone’s beloved family dog already. He has the personality of a dog who belongs on hikes, stretched across a living room rug, or greeting his people at the door with that big goofy grin. Instead, he has spent month after month waiting in a kennel while younger puppies and newer arrivals come and go.
Radar has done his part by staying loving, hopeful, and ready. Now he just needs someone to give him the chance he’s been waiting for—a home where he can finally stop being overlooked and start being cherished.
