San Andreas, CA…On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Special Olympics Flame of Hope Torch made its way through Calaveras County as part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, carrying the flame toward the 2026 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games.

Representatives from Special Olympics Northern California joined law enforcement personnel and community partners from throughout Calaveras County for the torch’s passage through the county.

Participating agencies included the following:
– California Highway Patrol
– Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office
– Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Staff
– Calaveras County Sheriff’s Volunteers
– Calaveras County Board of Supervisors
– Calaveras County Health and Human Services
– Calaveras County Behavioral Health Services
– Calaveras County Clerk Recorder’s Office
– Calaveras County Administration
– Calaveras County Public Works
– Calaveras County, County Counsel
– Calaveras County Human Resources

We would like to thank the County departments whose staff came together in support of this meaningful tradition. The event once again crossed the scenic Pardee Dam, where the East Bay Municipal Utility District graciously hosted participants and provided a beautiful setting for the torch’s journey through the county.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is more than a relay; it is the largest public awareness and fundraising event for Special Olympics, helping provide year-round sports training, athletic competition, leadership opportunities, and health programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Every mile carried symbolizes the commitment of law enforcement and community members to inclusion, dignity, and opportunity for all athletes.

Today’s event served as a powerful reminder of the strong partnership between public agencies and the communities they serve, as participants came together to support Special Olympics’ mission and carry the Flame of Hope toward its final destination.
