San Andreas, CA…Meet Theo (A060701), a male Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, about 11 months old and weighing 55 pounds. Theo is a striking young dog with movie-star looks and a personality to match. With his sleek coat, athletic build, and alert amber eyes, he turns heads wherever he goes. But beneath all that handsome packaging is an affectionate, people-oriented dog who is eager to build a lasting bond with his future family.
Theo came to Calaveras County Animal Services as part of a large group of Belgian Malinois and shepherd mixes that had spent much of their lives confined to kennels and crates, with little opportunity for normal socialization or training. Despite that difficult beginning, he has shown himself to be remarkably sweet-tempered and resilient. As his confidence has grown, so has his playful, engaging personality.
At just 11 months old, Theo is still very much an adolescent with plenty of curiosity and energy. He enjoys walks, checks in frequently with his handler, and is attentive to the people around him. He already knows how to sit, takes treats gently, and is highly food-motivated, making him an excellent candidate for continued training. Like many young dogs, he’ll benefit from structure, exercise, and opportunities to put his sharp mind to work.
Theo has also done well meeting other dogs and appears to enjoy canine companionship. With his intelligence, loyalty, and athletic nature, he has all the ingredients to become an exceptional companion for an active individual or family. Someone willing to invest time in training and adventure will be rewarded with a devoted friend who is just beginning to discover everything life has to offer.
