San Andreas, CA…Meet Dahlia (A060929), a female Labrador Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix, about 7 years old and weighing 60 pounds. Dahlia firmly believes that a 60-pound dog belongs in your lap—and after spending a few minutes with her, you may find yourself agreeing.
This affectionate, joyful girl loves people and eagerly seeks out snuggles, scratches, and any opportunity to be close to her favorite humans. Despite having had a rough stretch before arriving at Calaveras County Animal Services, she has held onto her loving spirit and warm, friendly personality.
When Dahlia came to the shelter, she was dealing with irritated eyes and skin made sore by a flea allergy. Thanks to good veterinary care, medicated baths, and eye drops, she is healing beautifully. Through it all, she has been calm, patient, and trusting during every treatment. As her gorgeous blue-and-brown eyes clear and her glossy black coat continues to recover, her natural beauty shines a little brighter every day.
Dahlia approaches life with enthusiasm. She enjoys walks, loves exploring new scents, and greets people with an unmistakable zest for life. She can be strong on leash when she’s excited, so some continued leash training will help her channel that energy into enjoyable outings with her new family.
She has also shown friendly interest in other dogs during introductions and appears eager to make new friends. With her affectionate nature, resilient spirit, and obvious love of people, Dahlia has all the qualities of a wonderful companion.
After everything she’s been through, she’s more than ready for a home where she can spend her days doing what she loves most: sharing adventures, soaking up affection, and reminding her family that yes, even a 60-pound dog can be a lap dog.
