San Andreas, CA…Yesterday, we were proud to welcome three new lateral deputies to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office family. On Monday, July 13, 2026, Deputies Scott Ryan, Rodolfo Figueroa, and Shane Theilen took the Oath of Office during a swearing-in ceremony held in the Community Room at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Rachelle Whiting administered the Oath of Office in the presence of her command staff and the families of our newest lateral deputies. All three deputies join us after proudly serving with the Sonora Police Department and bring with them strong law enforcement backgrounds, deep ties to the region, and a shared commitment to serving their communities.
During conversations with each deputy, one common theme emerged: the opportunity to continue growing and serving with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Each highlighted the many opportunities our agency provides, including our wide range of specialty assignments and future leadership opportunities. They recognized Calaveras County as a place where they can continue building their careers while making a meaningful difference in the community.
We are especially excited to welcome Deputy Rodolfo Figueroa back home. Deputy Figueroa previously served with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and was a valued member of our SWAT Team. Returning with over 9 years of law enforcement experience, including time in a custody division, Deputy Figueroa brings valuable experience and a familiar connection to our agency. Outside of work, Rodolfo enjoys spending time with his family, hiking with his kids, homesteading, making homemade jam, selling fresh eggs, and recreational target shooting.
Deputy Scott Ryan joins our agency with 10 years of prior law enforcement experience, serving in both custody and patrol assignments. Before beginning his law enforcement career, Scott served for more than 3 years as a volunteer firefighter. Away from work, he enjoys weightlifting and cheering on the Chicago Bears.
Deputy Shane Theilen brings more than eight years of law enforcement experience to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. When he’s not serving the community, Shane enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding his dirt bike recreationally and competitively.
The hiring of experienced lateral deputies is a tremendous benefit to both our agency and the citizens we serve. Their prior training and real-world experience allow them to transition into our agency and begin serving our communities sooner while bringing years of proven law enforcement knowledge with them from day one. These deputies also strengthen our organization by bringing new perspectives, diverse experiences, and a continued commitment to professional excellence.
Please join us in congratulating Deputies Scott Ryan, Rodolfo Figueroa, and Shane Theilen as they begin this exciting new chapter with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. We are honored that they have chosen to continue their careers here and look forward to the positive impact each of them will have while serving the people of Calaveras County.
If you see them out in our communities, whether on patrol, attending a local event, or around town, please take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome them. Building relationships with the people we serve is at the heart of what we do, and we know these deputies are looking forward to meeting the community they have chosen to serve.
Welcome to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office family, Deputies Ryan, Figueroa, and Theilen!
